DCSMEC benefits for 2016

Dear DCSMEC Members:

After our careful evaluation of the Districts benefits this year, DCSMEC continues to recommend and endorse the following “DCSMEC Members Only” plans for benefits effective January 1, 2016.

SOLSTICE DENTAL/VISION has provided benefits to DCSMEC Union Members since 2003 with more savings and benefits compared to the District Plan. Solstice has enhanced the 2016 dental benefits with only a 3% rate increase. There is no rate increase to the Vision Plan and these rates are still competitive or better than the District plans while the benefits are simply better. If you don’t believe it, go on the DCSMEC web site ( and compare.

FAMILY LIFE continues (since 2010) to offer an excellent Hospital Indemnity plan to DCSMEC Members. The plan expanded it coverage last year and acts like a Gap Plan to help defer the increases in deductions for hospital confinements as well as out of pocket cost for “both in or out-patient surgeries.” Check out their rates and coverages on our web site.
Please take the time to compare and review these plans for savings and/or increased benefits that are available to DCSMEC Union Members “Only.” UNION MEMBERSHIP MATTERS

Open enrollment for DCSMEC members is November 25, 2014 through December 10, 2014. All plans will be effective January 1, 2015.
The DCSMEC Solstice Dental and Vision Members Only Plan has more savings and benefits overall compared to the UHC and Delta Plans offered through the District. The DCSMEC Solstice Dental and Vision plans have provided coverage for union members for the past 12 years.
Solstice is introducing a NEW PPO High Option Plan I in 2015 for DCSMEC union members with an increased plan maximum of $2,000. Compared to the high option UHC and Delta Dental Plans offered by the District, DCSMEC members who insure their family with the Solstice new PPO High Option Plan 1 can save as much as $318 per year, members with one dependent insured can save as much as $767 per year, and members who have single coverage can save up to $100 per year.
The Solstice DHMO S700A and S200A member only plans cost less and have lower co-pays on a majority of dental procedures. Members insured with the S200A Plan will receive rates reduced by 2% effective January 1, 2015.
The DCSMEC Family Life’s new GAP Members Only Plan, effective January 1, 2015 will cover “both in and out patient “surgeries and continue to offer members an excellent benefit for hospital confinement. Family Life has provided plans to our membership for the past 10 years.
• Family Life will continue to pay up to $5,180 for a 6 day hospital confinement and the new plan II for 2015 will pay up to an additional $3,000 per day (up to 3 days) for in-patient surgery.
• Family Life new Plan II will also cover out-patient surgery rendered in an out-patient ambulatory facility and will pay a $1,500 benefit.
Please take the time to review the plans and we will make every effort to have representatives at the different yards during open enrollment to answer any question you may have and help you enroll in the DCSMEC plans.
