General Membership Meeting (Today)

Attention all members, just a reminder that we have a General Membership Meeting on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. The meeting will be held at the DCSMEC hall located at 8250 NW 27th  Street (Suit 308) Doral, FL 33122. The meeting starts promptly at 4:30pm and normally concludes no later than 7:30pm.

Nominations for Officers will take place at the meeting under a special order of businessNominees who are not present at the meeting to accept their nomination must provide a letter of acceptance to the DCSMEC office. The letter can be hand-delivered or mailed, but it must be received within 5 (five) days after nominations, or the nominee will not be included on the ballot. 

An Election Committee will be selected by a majority vote of the membership attending the regular meeting prior to elections, under a special order of business. The Committee will count votes and assure that only qualified DCSMEC members vote.

We encourage all members to attend, participate and get informed. Please refrain from parking on assigned/numbered spaces. Park only in unmarked spaces. Please be advised that building management will tow all improperly parked vehicles. All meetings are strictly for members only.

DCSMEC Notifications & Reminder

Attention all Zone Mechanics: DCSMEC is happy to announce that the 2022 bid has been scheduled for December 1st, 2022, at 7:30 am at Miami Jackson Senior auditorium. Take this time to consider if you want to bid and what your preference are. Remember that seniority has its privileges.

Attention all recently hired RMSM-1: here is your training calendar for the months of September and October 2022:

September 5-9th. A/C training

September 12-23rd. Electrical training

September 26-30th. Plumbing training 

October 3-4th. ITS SAP training

Happy Labor Day

This Labor Day, I hope you look back over the past year and feel good about all that we have accomplished together. Congratulations on your outstanding performance! Always remember that you are valued and appreciated for all of your hard work and skills; your unique qualities and dedication for our academic community is what makes the DCSMEC family so special. 

Our accomplishments over this past year and the progress we have made are unmatched in our industry. Collectively, we stand side-by-side with each other to make them happen. I want to thank you for your hard work. Now sit back, rest, enjoy time with friends and family, and I look forward to greater things ahead for all of us. Enjoy the long weekend, you definitely deserve it! Celebrate the fact that you make a difference in the lives of our students and staff. Have a great Labor Day!

General Membership meeting (July 2022)

Perfect Attendance Incentives:

The incentive was paid on 7/15/22, however management is reporting that a computer glitch, caused a system malfunction. If you have not received your perfect attendance incentive, please notify your payroll clerk.

Those who did not receive the incentive on 7/15/22 will get compensated on 7/29/2022.

The year of knowledge series:

DCSMEC continues the “Year of Knowledge” with our second presentation understanding your health insurance needs, options and rights. Specifically, we will cover the following: how to best maximize your insurance needs, how to select the best doctors available for your individual needs and how they are selected by your insurance plan. Short term & long term disability, and what insurance plan is the best for your family. DCSMEC receives an infinite number of calls every month related to insurance coverage. This is your opportunity to get acquainted with the options available to you and your family.

The presentation will be delivered by Rosa Novo (RISK BENEFITS MANAGEMENT). She is the head of Insurance for all of M-DCPS and a very distinguished healthcare professional who is nationally recognized as a leader in her field. Stay tuned for further details.

Worker’s Compensation Presentation (July 18, 2022)

Seats are almost gone, if you are planing to attend the worker’s compensation presentation for Monday, July 18, 2022. Please register right away, there’s only a few seats remaining.

We start with Workers Compensation and understanding your rights. Specifically, we will cover the following: how workers compensation can help you in your time of need, what doctors are available and how they are selected by workers compensation, the time frame and how it will affect your income, and whether or not you can you get a second opinion. DCSMEC receives countless calls every month related to workers compensation.

The presentation will be delivered by Rosa Royo (RISK BENEFITS MANAGEMENT). She is the head of Workers Compensation and a luminary in the subject. All stewards need to acquire knowledge on the subject in order to provide our membership with correct and concise information. We will also provide free gifts and prizes courtesy of the “Rebuild Me Program”. We urge all members to participate, however, we highly urge our middle age/seasoned veterans (who have a higher risk of on the job injury) to attend as well.

Seating is limited, so if you wish to participate you must reserve your seat in advance. Happy Independence Day

On July 4, 1776, during a Congressional meeting, came the “unanimous Declaration of the thirteen united States of America.” Signed by 56 men, it opens with a long and elegant sentence whose first words every American child knows: “When in the Course of human events…”

The document created what is today, “THE UNITED STATES of AMERICA”, and 246 years after its inception we celebrate our independence. We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness”.

DCSMEC hopes that you have a great holiday. Enjoy the fireworks, BBQ’s, movies and outings with family & friends. Be safe out there and take a moment to remember and appreciate the opportunity we have all been given, by those enlightened 56 brave men 246 years ago.

Juneteenth is a holiday commemorating the end of slavery in the United States. It is also called “Emancipation Day” or “Juneteenth Independence Day”.

On this Juneteenth holiday, DCSMEC remembers and honors all who struggled to shed the bonds of slavery and who gave their lives in the perilous fight to be free.
