DCSMEC NOTICE
It is with great sadness that the Officers of DCSMEC notify our Members on the passing of Charles (Chuck) Burdeen Chuck was the Executive Director of the Dade County Schools Administrator Association (DCSAA), a charter member of the Coalition of School Unions and a longtime friend of labor.
Chuck had a long and distinguished career of fighting for the rights of workers from here to Chicago and he will be sorely missed.
Those of us who will continue the struggle of ensuring the conditions and working rights of workers will certainly miss our colleague in arms and if we know Chuck, he is probably in Heaven organizing a place for us all.

2014 Health Care Survey
As you may or may not be aware, MDCPS has contracted with the international human resources consulting firm Aon Hewitt to provide the risk management office with support for the upcoming RFP for healthcare. Together, they recently launched a survey to MDCPS employees regarding health benefits. We would like to expand the picture regarding your opinions and would appreciate your feedback. M-DCPS/DCSMEC (Leading the Nation in Public Education)
DCSMEC would like to congratulate Superintendent Alberto M. Carvalho selected as the National Superintendent of the Year by the School Superintendent’s Association at the organization’s National Conference in Nashville, TN.
Upon selection Mr. Carvalho shared these thoughts with us, “Being named National Superintendent of the Year is truly a great honor, but I realize it’s not simply an honor for me, today’s recognition reflects the dedication, sacrifice and work of every member of our education family as well as the guidance and direction of our School Board; I share this award with every teacher, student, employee, and community partner of Miami-Dade County Public Schools.”
We congratulate all the DCSMEC members whose hard work provides the foundation for the proper learning environment necessary for success in today’s ever evolving public education.
