Dear Members,
DCSMEC is again offering a package of alternative insurance benefits to our members “ONLY”.  The District offers similar products so please compare our benefits against theirs before you make your choice and see which option is best for you and your family.

Update about salary increases.

Dear Members,

“Yes” I have seen the paper and the Union Officers and I have had a flurry
of very excited calls from our members. Many of the members who have
called have not actually read the paper and are hearing rumors. If you read
the paper you will see that the very first sentence reads “Miami-Dade school
administrators have more earning potential under revamped salary schedule.”
That does not mean that 1300 administrators received a 10 to 30% raise.
The fact is that those 1300 administrators have not received anything. The
only people who have received a salary increase is 3 Managerial Exempt
administrators who got promotions. Even unions believe that people should get
raises when they get promotions.

With all the calls the Officers and I have received I put a formal request into the
Labor/Relations department to go over and explain what this article means in
the event I was reading it wrong.

The response is attached.

DCSMEC NOTICE

Dear Members:

The Union is proud to announce that the Bond Referendum to generate 1.2 billion dollars for refurbishing and replacing and/or updating our schools has passed by a large margin.  Thanks to all of our members who helped and to all of our members who voted.

There were many important candidates and issues voted on and resolved in this election and regardless of your political affiliation or convictions what is most important now is that we come together and work in unison.

There are serious problems facing this Nation, this State, this Country and this Union and we need and appreciate your input and support.

Fraternally,

Joe Cortese

DCSMEC “STANDBY DUTY” NOTICE

Dear Members:

It has been brought to our attention by Maintenance Management that standby duty will be suspended for all trades except Carpentry until further notice.  It was not explained to us why carpentry was excluded however, it was discussed with us that the Capital Outlay Budget is still underfunded and we were not given any indication as to if or when standby duty will resume.  On page 21, (Section 6) of our contract it clearly indicates that “the bureau/office head of designee may, at his/her discretion establish a category of duty designated as “standby” for any of the trade classifications within the unit”.  This of course also means that they can discontinue/suspend the practice.  We will continue to pursue the reinstatement of “standby” which we feel is a great benefit to the District, Community and especially the Children!  Hopefully this will only be a temporary situation.  If there are any changes we will notify our members as soon as possible.

Fraternally,

Joe Cortese, Business Representative
